San Francisco – A slight drizzle peppered students scurrying to class on the crest of their new semester at SF State Tuesday but much heavier rain will follow in suit this week.

Backpack toting students, scurry to their classes while the high precipitation this week ensures that the bay area will be blanketed with rain and fog this week. New and returning students at SF State have been greeted by overcast weather, that will add an additional obstacle to their schedules.

“I was in such a rush to get to class and not get drenched, I almost slid and fell twice on Tuesday,” said Pablo Ramirez, 24-year-old, communications major. “The library entrance near the creative arts building has been wet with rain from people shoes and I’m lucky I didn’t fall and hurt myself.”

Substantial rain will be met with powerful winds, as the forecast unfolds in the following days. This week’s forecast provides a detail report of heavy rain and intense winds until friday with the chance of flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Thursday promises to have the heaviest downfall for the week with a 100 percent precipitation.

Last night heavy rain caused many trees to collapse on the road and power loss, which made public transportations inconvenient today.

This morning the Muni M Line at Ocean/San Jose was delayed due to power loss, also the Muni bus was delayed due to trapped vehicles near Ocean and 280 freeway because of fallen trees, according to SFMTA.

“Rain was pouring so hard last night, I saw many trees and branches on the middle of the road. Muni took so long to come, so I ended up super late to class,” said Stephen Ho, a SF State Statistic major.

Around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, a tree had fallen in the middle of the streets of Lake Merced and Brotherhood Way causing many students to be late to class.

Naylin Min, a 26-year-old computer science major, was one of the students who found himself rushing to class after being backed up in traffic for almost 30 minutes.

“Street lights were out which made it hard to even exit my street,” Min said, “After seeing the tree blocking traffic, I knew I was going to be late to class. This heavy rain is going to be a problem for me this semester.”

The ensuing rains is although predicted to let up over the weekend, with promises of low precipitation and a sunny forecast.People will be able to enjoy a break from the rain and pursue the amenities the bay area has to offer, that would be inaccessible due to the rain.
